All Box patches are made of lightweight aircraft grade aluminum with ridged supports incorporated where needed. The boxes are finished in bright white marine grade powder coating and have reflective DC labeling that will reflect light in the event of power failure.
All have a closed cell rubber gasket that will flex around/over minor surface challenges. Any areas the box patch doesn’t completely seal can be approached with other items like wood plug and wedges, rubber sheeting or whatever available to shove in the hole. Your goal is to contain or slow the leak 80% or more so your de-watering efforts can keep you afloat.
Please obtain training at a training school or through approved training as deemed appropriate within your chain of command. Practice is important for you to know where, when and how to use your equipment if/when needed. We recommend using the TEAM DC BOX PATCH in conjunction with Paratech DCS shoring to hold it in place. Research TEAM Rescue Tools for more information. Not intended for use in/around explosive fumes or liquids.
    DAMAGE CONTROL
Damage Control has always been part of the Maritime world, and in the last few centuries as a discipline in its own right.
    Shipboard Damage Control is
the discipline of maintaining watertight integrity of the ship’s hull. The NAVY personnel specializing in Damage Control are known as Damage control men, or DC´s.
All ocean-going vessels have various safety equipment including equipment for response to flooding.
Wood plugs and wedges, rubber sheets, various lengths of lumber (old school) or modern metal DC Shoring.

    First Level Response:
Your first response is for the closest person to grab the closest quick response Damage Control grab and go kit and respond to the location of the leak.
You should have several of these across your ship depending on length. Your DC Quick Response bag should have various tools for level one counter measures.
Various size wood plugs and wedges, hammers, rope, wheel wrenches, rubber sheeting are common items to start with.
If you find the hull breach cannot be contained with plugs and wedges you can try putting something over the leak.
    (See second level response below)
    Second Level Response:
With larger or odd shaped hull breaches it may be better to cover the entire area with a “Splinter Box Patch”.
These patches are sturdy yet lightweight and can be placed over the damaged area.
With the box in place the ingress of water should be reduced. Your goal is ideally stopping the leak but if you can manage to reduce the volume of flooding to something your dewatering pumps can keep up with it will hopefully buy you time to make it back to shore.
You can use 4x4 lumber, but this will need to be cut to size and that is extremely complicated in a stressful situation such as a hull breach.
We recommend metal DCS Shoring as this can be extended or retracted to quickly match the situation. An I shore can be assembled in under 1 minute, a K shore in under 2 minutes apposed to having to measure and cut wood.
A big part of Damage Control and Damage Control Equipment is there to prevent flooding of the ship after a hull breach or impact that have degraded the integrity of the structural strength in the ship. This mainly through some form of Shoring.
Throughout the ages, most parts of the Damage Control intervention methods and equipment have undergone tremendous development.
We have a youtube videos that cover TEAM Marine Damage Control Equipment that may help you better understand the discipline of Damage Control and how to use our products..
